Hi, I have a 95 Galant and it will not go into any gear. The shifter goes into place and nothing happens. You can tell nothing is engaging.

Is it possible this could be something besides a worn out tranny?

Is there any part that is known to go out on these and cause it to do this?

LACarMan!

I had this happen! I went through days of hair pulling until I did a systematic check of all the areas that deal with the gears engaging...and whata ya know...elecrtro-mechanical....

Actually, it is just "mechanical". Take off the console and look at the shifter. You may want to take off the handle and check the wires to the overdrive button too while you're at it.

The shifter has a steel housing welded to the body with grooves cut into it for each position on the shifter - P, R, D ,2, L, etc.

There is a spring-loaded bar that is perpendicular to the shift handle, going driver to passenger side, which runs over those grooves...day in and day out.

That bar has a little nylon bushing....which wears out...and metal touches metal...no biggie, right?

WRONG! It grounds the fricken electrical circuit and voila...no shifting signal sent!

I created a bushing/sleeve out of a window washer fitting (any car parts store, bring piece of old one) and fixed it.

Check it out and let me know if it solves the prob!

^^^I wouldnt count on that. I had my car for years and never had anything in the shifter wear out! Tranny in these cars goes out very easily...especially the autos! Not saying dont check what Dem said, but prepare for the worst (unfortunately)
