After spending a few week hunting for my next car.... its almost here.
trading in my 97 lantra wagon for a brand new outlander VR-X in the electric blue.

So this time tomorrow i should have my new car!
(never had a new car before so the buzz i'm getting is pretty high).

I'd like to say thanks to all those that post on this forum, your comments have helped me select the outlander.

Taking the car for a drive from Sydney to Newcastle on Saturday so I'm sure pictures will follow (bit of a camera nut actually so there will be truck loads of photos!)

Anyhow big grin's and pictures to follow.

Cheers,
Gavin

Have received the car.
Love it!!! drives very well and I love the extra little bit of height over standard cars. very helpful in Sydney traffic.

Seats are very cumfy in the vr-x and it performed really well in the drive up to newcastle. Plenty of grunt for going up the long step hills on the highway.

I was undecided between the 'effect grey' and 'electric blue' colour, finally decided on the blue and the car looks very impressive.
Went to my neice's 1st birthday party yesterday and it was a sea of grey cars out front. So the blue stands out really nicely.

I have attached a picture 'cause I'm proud. :)

Only 1 problem with the car and that is the SAT/NAV system is not receiving any GPS satellite signals. :( oh well, get that fixed tomorrow.

Cheers,
Gavin

How has the Sat Nav system performed, now that you have had the car a few months?

I'm looking at a VRX and have read some reviews where the in dash system has been criticised as being difficult to operate.

Thoughts?

The VRX is great. initially we looked at the vr model. but my wife suggested we upgrade to the vr-x to get the leather seats. (plus some other extras become standard).

However The sat/nav sucks!

I've had a lot of problems if you play a cd or use the sat/nav. the next time you start the car the display doesn't work, the radio and the buttons still work but you cant see what your doing. this also means that the you cant use the cd or the sat/nav.

after a few restarts of the car and a couple of days the picture comes back.
I've had it looked at a couple of times but the problem still hasn't gone away.
I dont know if it is a problem with the sat/nav system or how the sat/nav system interfaces with the car's electrics/ignition.

Bottom line love the vr-x all its extras, eg 6 speakers (the sound is great), side srs, better body colour and trim, sports suspension, and the leather seats.

Just wishes I could have downgraded the multimedia system to the cd-stacker.

When it does work the sat/nav is not that difficult to use, though I have not been a big user of other systems so I can't really compare. I'm an IT professional though so new systems I pick up fairly easily, probably wouldn't be good for my mum.

Regards,
Gavin

Thanks for the feedback. The Sat Nav issues seem like a headache I don't want. Sounds very frustrating. I'm amazed these sorts of things continue to happen in this day and age, and even moreso when they can't be ironed out quickly. Interestingly, I haven't heard responses from any other VRX owners with the multimedia system in dash. I wonder if it's a common occurence or you just got a one off problematic system.
