my 1999 galant vrg ac system is not cooling sometimes. why checking i accidentally touch something under the dash on the passenger side and it started to cool. i made further checks and found a device mounted on the blower housing with three wires plugged in. this unit was very hot and wires and plug burnt. i would like to know what is this unit and its function. thank you.

Does the a/c blower fan work on high only???

it could be the blower motor resistor-

it controls the lower speeds...
