Hello all... I wonder if someone can answer a question for me?
My Paj is running on Bridgestone Dueler A/T's for boots, they're great, like the motor they are made in Japan and have Japanese tyre sizes (metric) I presume which are 30x9.50 R15 LT (105S 693) can anyone out there can tell me what size in British I am looking for please?
Cant get used to this metric stuff!

Many thanks for your help in anticipation.
Mel

if you walked into a tyre place and started mumbbling imperial inches they would look at you funny

so conversion is about inches to mm and inches to cms

a tyre has a width of a tread across ,a height up from the rim , and i assume the internal fitting size of the tyre to suit the rim

so grab your inches tape measure and find out that way

online conversion sites do exist ie electronicconversions.com

Metric sized tires use an aspect ratio formula so a 235/50R15 means its 235mm across at the tread and the height of the side wall is half that or 117.5mm and the rim size is 15.

Add that up and you have...
Height = (117.5mm x 2) + 15"
Width = 235mm

Non metric sized tires are measured in Inches
33x12.5 15 means you have...
Height = 33"
Width = 12.5"

Remember, if you increase your tire diameter, you will have to recalibrate your speedo by changing the speedo gear in the transfer case. If you don't the speedo will read too slow or too fast.

When I upgraded my tires/wheels on my vehicles, I even created an excel spreadsheet to allow me to keep the actual tire diameter the same to prevent having to mess with the speedo.

That said, on my Golf I put on a slightly bigger tire which made my odometer much more accurate. It seems it was ~10% slower than actual speed.

Also, if you're wondering how big a tire you can fit in your wheel well w/out modifications to the suspension, then the answer is either 31's or 32's depending on if it's a coil sprung rear end or a leaf sprung rear end (I'm now sure what you have since we didn't get diesel models in the States).

On my coils sprung 1990 LWB 3.0V6 (1991 model overseas) I was able to fit 32x11.5/15's on with a small bit of trimming to the front bumper's rubber end caps (1/8"-1/4"). It was so slight, I merely let the tire trim them away via friction. Came out beautifully!

With moderate suspension & body lift mod's you can fit up to a 35" tire under there but you may not have the torque to turn the wheels adequitely off road or up steep hills.

HTH.

That's food for thought, I was considering uping my girls booty sizes... I hope you don't mind but I will print this off and take it with me... The tyre guys are good at the garage... (they're always smiling although I think it's the drugs they take) :laughing: lol.
I have a sat nav (my other half bought it for Christmas) It gives my speed on the read out, my paj does 1 MPH less than the sat nav indicates at the same speed ie, when my speedo says 30 my sat nav says 29 so its in my favour at least.
You're all filled with so much knowledge here, I am grateful for all your help. :clap: :thumbsup:
Thanks
