Hi, I am new to this site and just wanted to ask a question about my recently purchased l300 which is a 1982 model with a 2.6 sigma engine in it.

I would like to know if there is a direct replacement fuel tank available which is larger than the 50 or so litre tank that I already have. Preferably from a wreckers.

It's either that or carry 4 or 5 jerry cans which take up too much space.

I will be driving round Oz so the more cheap fuel I can fit in, the better.

Many thanks in advance.

Matt

Both mine and my mates 84 L300 have a longe range tank in them (about 110ltr) They both look identical, so im assuming they were not custom made. try http://www.autoparts.com.au for the bit you need, Ive had a bit of success with them chasing parts for mine.

Mine seems to be a very basic unit, shouldnt be hard to fabricate one or have one made, but worth its weight in gold :) good luck!

Have you thought about Autogas?
My L300 has the original petrol tank replaced with an 80 litre gas tank between the rear springs. I then fitted an auxiliary 75 litre petrol tank which goes length wise under the floor (centrally on the passenger side) I then pried off the 4x4 plastic logo from the side of the van and replaced it with a fuel cover from a regular L300 wreck. So now I go to the rear filler cover to add gas, and go to the new cover near the passenger door to add petrol. I did have to add some heat shield panels to the petrol tank to stop engine heat from affecting the fuel temperature.
Back in 1993 I travelled from Melbourne right around the country, and purchased my first 'petrol' in Katherine NT. I covered the cost of the conversion with the single trip.

cheers Ian

I think these were made by gossies conversions years ago, ive been wanting one for years but havnt had any luck finding one. They were called SUPA TANKS and held about 120lts.
