Hi, I had to remove the crankshaft to remove the lower guard on my 1992 2.5td - it is also necessary to allow you to remove/fit the timing belt. When you refit the crankshaft pully, you should also fir a new crankshaft pully bolt, as the old one will have stretched, and you may find it bottoms out in the hole. If you're not able to get hold of a new one, you can saw a couple of threads off the end to compensate for any stretching that may have occured...

bentos is correct although most times cutting a few threads off and lock tighting the bolt will make it re-usable.all the timing marks are very easy to see and remember to change the balancer belt at the same time if you are changing the timing belt.they both wear the same and therefore should be changed at the same interval(every 54,000miles)
