Just wondering if there was much difference in the engines throughout the years.. looking at getting a 1983 reconditioned engine put into my 1990 L300 4wd.. did anything change or should it be an easy job?

I thought the stock 83 engine was a 1.6-1.8ltr... i might be wrong tho.. isnt your 90 the 2ltr/2.4ltr?

Even if you DID do it.. you'd have to put the 83 engine on EFI to meet emission standards.... that is if your current engine is EFI... well thats the case here in WA anyhoo!

Hrmm, thats a good question (re the engine size). He's put it up as a 2L (and yes, my 1990 is a 2L) however he may have just assumed it was. I definitely don't want an 1800 in there.. as for EFI i'm not entirely sure, but I do know our emission laws _are_ pretty lax. You can quite happily cut out your cat converter for example and not have any consequences.

Good call, after getting back to him he rechecked the papers and it IS only an 1800! Saved me a potential bad buy there.. thanks :)
