Hi!
Yes, there is mess around automotive bulbs. I changed my W5W for LED equivalent as well. I see that there is perhaps a difference between W5W=194=2825=... and the 921=917=etc bulb mentioned above. The wedge base is the same, 10mm, for sure. But as you will see the 194 bulb is no more than 10mm in diameter on all its lenght. The 9xx you found is 10mm wedge base but 15mm body diameter. Watch for that, measure the hole (just use some 15mm stick and try tu push it into the hole) and if the hole will be at least 15mm, you can use that bulb. But I think tha chance of having the hole of more than 11-12mm is less then 50%.
I have the firt one from page
http://superlumination.com/194.htm with 10mm x 27mm. It gives more power than regular incandescent W5W, the white light colour is between 5000K and 6000K and I use it for year now. With no problems, no burn-outs. The second bulb from this page with 11x32mm is of less luminuous power I guess, because of smaller and much weaker LED chips (I got another bulb with those). But the third one with 11x38mm has 25 of those weaker chips , which may result in at least comparable luminous power with the first mentioned. It is allways a lottery buying LED bulbs. The power differs one to another.
Good luck and be ready for 2-3 purchases till you find the bulb of enough power.
