Hi everyone! Just joined the group, hope to learn and contribute. Had my GLXI now for a few years and done a fair bit of work to it, eg the old 'dicky' distributor problem which leaves you with a dead engine for a couple of minutes etc.

Now I find myself with a worn out water pump and am currently in the throws of doing that. Wow, whoever designed the engine needs shooting - why should I have to dismantle the entire timing belt system just to fit the pump?!?! Oh well, it's a good car otherwise and worth the work.

BTW does anyone know where the cylinder block water drain plug is? The manual I have (by Peter Russek) says its over by the flywheel somewhere but I'm blowed if I can see it!

Cheers!

if it is anything like the l200 engines than look for a 14mm bolt sticking out of the block about 3 inches in from the flywheel bell housing.with luck it will be on the front side of the engine but unsure

Thanks. There were one or two suspicious looking bolts on the block but I hesitated about undoing any of them - just in case?! In the end I didn't really need to worry, as most of the water came out of the radiator drain plug, and only a small amount was left in the pump which I prevented from going all over the timing gear with a rolled up old tea towel.

The job's all done now, plus of course I fitted new timing belts etc at the same time which hopefully now avoids the horrendous cost of getting this done by a service centre (cheapest quote I found for a full service including timing belts was £350 plus VAT!).
