Hi all,

I've have been having problem with my OEM CD player in my 03 Outlander. Specifically, any thing about mid-level volume I get this scratching sound that is driving all of us nuts.
Thinking it was a tweeter I spoke to this guy that replaces them and he pointed me out that the since that noise was coming from the all the speakers, it was probably the stereo.
Fair enough, I started playing with the balance, treble, etc. and the noice was off, at least for a while. A few days later it was back again.
I decided to get an aftermarket CD/mp3 player (79.99 USD) that amazon.com is runing and it arrived today.
I'm aware I have to get a harness from radio shack for about 10 bucks

Question:
How do I remove the current OEM CD from the dash? I can't see any screws on the side or inside the box bellow the CD.

Any help, highly appreciated.

RAF

For what is worth I figured it out, not without the help of some older posting in this group.
1) removed the front pannel buttons that control the A/C, Fan and Direction.
2) Removed two screws that hide bellow the buttons.
3) With my fingers in the button holes pulled out the panel, helped with a screw driver from bellow up. I took precautions to not damage the dash with the screw driver.
3) Remove the four screws on each corner of the CD player and the deck slides out together with its kit.

The only issue I had was that the new deck required a ground (black) which apparently the original connector & deck didn't use. To solve that I screwed the ground wire to a hole that was already there kit's side.

I'm really happy with the improvement in the sound. I have to say that OEM Mitsubishi deck sounded so.. flat. compared to the new one.
Having said that, the original issue that prompted me to change the CD player remains somewhat, although now the scratch sound happens only at a much higher volume. I guess, the real issue lays with the door speakers and the tweeters.

Happy driving every one,

RAF.

Try going to an audio shop and asking them what they think, I'm sure they'll help you out.
