Thanks for that Mr-mkii. Its got to be the number one question asked in this forum and to be honest giving out codes on the forum is probably not the best (or legal) solution. The message is simple; if you need a radio code call Mitsi with your details and ask them! You should only ask a board member if you have an extremmely rare or unusual circumstance (like the guy from Iceland who imported a Pajero from the US and they wouldn't give him a code over the phone.)

Yes, the only way to see serial number is to take out the radio...

Hi mr_mkii: I am just with the same problem suffered by the guy out of the country. I am located in Guatemala City and our Mitsu dealer puts a face like this :P when I asked for a radio code. And the US Mitsu lady would go :offtopic:
If, but only if you would be willing, I would Email you, my VIN number and radio Serial. Also a photo of myself standing next to my beloved Mirage SD.
Then you would call the tender lady at Mitsu and get the code for me.
You can get to http://medialab.galileo.edu and check I am the actual director of this university Medialab. and my Email is: meaparicio@galileo.edu

If you don't feel like helping me then it will be very expensive  to buy plane tickets just to get my radio code.

Thanks for what you've done so far.

Is that number correct? It's not formated right? It has to many digits. I tried calling I get an error.

How difficult is it to remove the faceplate from the stereo? My wife has a 2001 Eclipse RS and I want to remove it w/o any scratches...any ideas??

I know from putting custom radios u need those lil "key's" to slide on both slides to move the stereo out but i just havent spent the time to see about removing it here

Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks guys/gals

hey dude
did you get your radio code? I have 1994 montero sr and I just called mitsubishi ask for the code. They just ask me with my serial number. Here is the code that they gave me. 6884 or 6012 if this code did not work for you just give me your serial number of the radia and I will try to get your code.

I have this same problem on my 2001 Montero Limitted. This problem is actually how I found this forum :). When I talked to the customer service lady she said that the code was to provide additional security so that the radio doesn't get stolen. I've had several radios stolen out of previous cars, but never a stock radio...it just doesn't seem worth the trouble if you asked me...but no one asked me. I wonder if Mitsubishi still includes this "security feature" on their latest models.

First of all this is a MONTERO/MONTERO SPORT forum. You would probably get better answers on the Eclipse forum don't you think? :P

Anyhow... On my montero there are 2 screws for surrounding bezel that are located at the top of plate (screwed up into the dash and can only be seen from below). Then it's 2 or 4 screws to remove radio. Disconnect harness, and you're golden.

On my 1998 Montero Sport, instead of removing the entire radio, I was able to get the serial number by the following procedure: I'm not sure if they put a sticker on the bottom of all radios.

1. Remove your Ash Tray
2. Unscrew 2 screws that hold a metal plate from the Ash Tray cavity.
3. Remove that metal plate.
4. Look under and you will see the bottom of the radio.
5. A sticker with the serial number can be seen on the bottom of the radio.

I have a problem with serial #. I was able to remove the bezel and get all the info from the back of the radio. This is the info I got

Model # MR587387
Ref # CQ-JB0161A
Serial # 51294
Label # YEFM01883A
And an embeded # on the back FA05669A

I called Mitsubishi with the follwoing info handy and they told me that the serial # I am providing is incorrect. I took out the bezel again, remove the 4 screws from the radio and pulled it out again but 51294 are the 5 digits written next to serial #. Not sure why my serial # is not correct. Any help would be appreciated. I have a Montero Limited 2002 with Infinity Audio system P004

Thanks

Sorry I haven't been on here for a while and due to the enormous amount of audio code requests which were taking up alot of my free time I am now offering them for a $5.00 fee. You will need a paypal account to send the money. Just send me a message if you are interested.
