Hey all, first time posta..

Got 1989 L300 Sportpac, Japanese import.
Head gasket went and motor too tired to fix, (380,000KM + about 120,000 with broken speedo cable).
Replace motor with 1994 equivalent 4G63 SOHC 2.0lt
All good... BUT...

Starts fine, runs fine. Then warms up, Idle speed increases, sweet smell of burning Glycol (antifreeze) out the backend.

Get this.

NO milky oil
NO grey bubbles in radiator.
NO external evidence of blown head gasket.

Spark-plugs all have black film around plug, I guess this is the glycol.

What gets me is, If i have head gasket problem or a cracked head I'd only expect there to be evidence on one spark plug, not all!

I'f the inlet manifold gasket is leaking then again I'd expect on one or two plugs, not all.

Carberetor shows no evidence of leakage around the thermal isolator.

Has anybody ever experienced a hairline crank in the inlet manifold?

I'm getting to the point of not wanting to spend any more cash on it as it's cost enough already, replacement diff, gearbox, clutch, shocks etc.

Cheers
Kev

Yeah been through all this, water pump packed up, blew head gasket and warped the head, had it planed and refitted it. Did 500km and then took it up a decent hill whereupon it blew the head gasket and poured glycol out the exhaust pipe in a big way. Found a 2nd hand head, planed it and fitted it, end of problems.
