Yeah, I fucked up when I bought the car, and it's to late to go back and demand cruise control. So anyways, can I put a 3rd party setup in there? I called the dealership and they said they couldn't put one in for me, and suggested I go third party.

Any suggestions on how I should go about doing this, or where I should go? I live near San Jose, CA. thanks!

I wouldn't, solely based on the fact that if it screws something up, it won't be covered under warranty, and most places hack into wiring you need on your car.

I would call a few other dealers as in the uk we fit cruise control units on just about all our range of vehicles supplied from mitsubishi.but as far as aftermarket cruise I agree with utiheadbanger as any fault that could even remotely be traced to the cruise control unit will not be covered by warranty.

I do not know if this will help you where you are but the uk spec lancers do have cruise control available as an post production fit.here are the part nu,bers depending on your spec.
cruise control unit sp029658
cruise control installation kit 1.8(man/auto)
cruise control installlation kit 2.0(man)
the installation kits are required along with the control unit(just pick the appropriate one of course)
these are mitsi part numbers but as I said they are for the uk so may not help you

Cruise shouldn't use more fuel than normal driving solely because the throttle is held open at a constant rate, unlike normal driving where it fluctuates.

Well, I just made two 1000 mile road trips stopping for nothing but gas, and it turns out my knee is stronger than I thought. I think I'll save my money and put it into the stereo system or something. Thanks for the advice guys :)
