depends how much money that you are willing to blow alway. if you want rims it can go for 1000-3000 and tires is about 800 or so.

If you have the same mathematical sizes we do, you need a 205/40R17 tire for the 17". Use something name-brand when buying tires.

Well...I am not a huge fan because I have put them on many cars and taken them off, too. The sidewalls like to cave in after 20K miles...

I have Dunlop SP Sport 5000 DSST run-flats on my car, but only because they were free with only 50 miles on them. I like Dunlops, Michelin makes great sport tires, but for compacts, you can't go wrong with Yokohama or Toyo. I have installed many tires on many different types of cars in my day, from the little econobox Geo to the 100K+ BMW.

I can't do that. I have no garage space (damn Stratus (or Eclipse, whatever) and Intrepid) and I had nowhere to store them, so I threw out the rims and tires. I hate 14" steelies anyway. This is why I got all-season performance AND I read reviews before I got my tires.

That's why I won't ever buy Toyos again. I haven't found a legitimate review (beyond people's opinions), accept for the Belle Tire guy saying "these are great tires, I have them on my truck".

Maxims are made by Konig, so I'd buy those. Never heard of Silverstone. As far as Toyos, they are great on trucks, not cars.

Well, I'm still going to get Firestone Destination A/T's for my Jeep. According to Tirerack they are ranked 4th in the On/Off Road tire category, which is pretty good since they are pretty inexpensive.

I have 215/60-16 Falkens on my '97 Diamante. Some comments:

They were rated #1 by Consumer Reports last year, good ride, quiet,
precise turn-in handling, price, etc.

My observation of my set of tires is that 1) they are very noisy (especially when braking---loud hum), 2) the "precise turn-in" makes the car require CONSTANT attention to my driving. Don't look off the road for a second!

I like the look of the Yokohama Avids. They have a solid bar of rubber in the center of the tread and gently zig-zagged grooves, both of which make me think the won't follow the freeway rain-gooves. The Kuhmos I bought last year were so bad in this respect I took them off after 1000 milesl. Almost sickening sensation!
