OK, so I like working with my used car sales manager. My only problem is, he tends to not think when taking trade-ins. First of all, this guy has taken in 2 used 2002 Eclipse GT automatics. Both have over 60K miles. It's not that they are BAD cars, just...nothing special and high mileage.

Anyway, he got all excited when the customer had a '98 Eclipse Spyder 5 speed to trade. He didn't ask what kind of Eclipse, condition, etc. The customer said it needed to be painted and that it needed a timing chain. Well, the car was towed into my dealer. Here's what it looks like:

(IMG:http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m218/utiheadbanger/105699968_338303490_0.jpg)

Sad part is...the looks aren't the only thing wrong with it. The door handles are both broken, the radio was taken out and the connector was cut off, the aluminum rims are gone for steel wheels, and probably the worst part, the owner didn't explain that the timing belt broke WHILE HE WAS DRIVING. Since the 2.4L is an interference engine, meaning that if the timing is off, the valves will hit the cylinders, the engine is garbage. With only 108,000 miles, our used car manager lost a TON of money.

Why must people ghetto rig cars when ones like the Eclipse have SO MUCH aftermarket support?

Where I bought my car, I doubt they would take a car in on trade if they can't test drive it first.

Anyways, it's sad what people do to cars so they can be "unique & original". If it's so unique, why is everyone doing it?

It sounds like your dealership needs to amend their trade-in policy/procedure.

I think I saw that car one day! Man that car looks like it belongs in a junk yard! Sorry to hear ya dealer got took.

I had a ford focus I traded it in for a chevy trailblazer site unseeen he came by my house after I signed the papers I did not tell the dealer about the minor belt squeel because I knew it was minor, had it been serious I woulda rasied the roof with the lot I bought it from.

Got a good deal tho it's a gas drinker, I got it for my mother my brother thinks it's his.

Yeah, he only has done this a few times with used cars, because they are usually ones that will be sold right away. We always do used inspections and fix major things to sell the car, so my buddy at work inspected it and found it needed a rebuild on the head and possible pistons...safe to say this car is garbage.

Sounds stolen to me. Probably took off the rims and radio and sold them elsewhere.

The used car sales manager offered me the car for a grand. I don't even want the engine, it's the 2.4L SOHC.

I don't drink beer

I would have considered it if it was the 4G63. It's a 5 speed, and I know it sounds ****, but it's FWD, and my car can accept the engine with changes in motor mounts because of the JDM Lancer...

damn, we actually have two 6 bolts, a 7 bolt and some heads at the garage. the only problem is they are a little bit 'apart'. one 6 bolt is going in our alcohol FWD and the other 6 is going into a 1g gsx. the 7 bolt I might be able to sneak out

Haha. Sad part is, that piece is still sitting in our back parking lot where the service cars and employee cars sit.

Kinda hard to hide when it looks like it does. Now the 2002 Eclipse GT I put engine mounts in shakes at idle!
