Hello everyone, Im new to the forum and already after some advice  I have just bought a w reg shogun pinin 1.8 GDI from a dealer and having problems already, The rear door is jammed shut and there is a nasty tapping coming from the top end of the engine (sounds like cam followers) and it also wants to stall every so often, As you can imagine im a bit bewildered already as the car has only done 44000 miles with full dealer history and im surprised at faults like this from a car of this age/mileage, I am going to speak to the dealer today as i have only had the car for a day and it is warrented for three months incedentaly the noise comes and goes but is quit loud when it appears. Any Advice greatly received thanks Richard ;)

The rattling is more than likely the cam followers (hydraulic lifters). If the car was standing for any length of time or imported, then the oil tends to gum or air gets into the lifters. This tends to be intermittent, always on start up and will disappear or be erratic after running for some time.

Step 1 is to try to bleed the lifters. In neutral increase revs from tickover to 3000 over 15 seconds, then lift off the gas for 15 seconds, then repeat. Do this 30 or 40 times and this may clear the lifters.

Step 2 is much more complex and involves removing the lifters and pumping them clear in successive baths of Diesel to clean them. If step 1 doesn't work post a reply and I'll email you the sequence.

PS I have the same problem with my Pinin 1.8 GDI. Not cured it yet.
