Anyone have the problem of their car hesitating when accelerating from a dead
stop? Check engine lite is on. Car runs smooth otherwise. Get occasional stall.
Thanks

If the CEL light is on then the computer has set and stored a fault code. Places like Autozone will read the code free and advise the meaning. Post that back here. Perhaps someone will then be able to offer assitance.

I am adding to this thread because my car is doing the same thing. From a stop, the acceleration hesitates until it gets some RPM's built up. Sometimes it even continues with RPM's. Seems to be a little better if the A/C is not on at the time. At idle, the engine runs smooth with intermittent roughness. The CEL is on and reads that there is a misfire in cylinder #4. I switched the coils so the #3 and 4 is now on 1#2 and the visa versa. Still get a missfire on Cylinder 4. It did read once with a misfire on Cylinder 2 but only the one time. So, with a little more history on the car, I did have to replace the O2 sensor that comes after the catylitic converter. The garage said that both sensors were bad so I replaced them both. Since then the O2 sensor after the CC occasionally shows an error. Can this all be caused from my CC being bad and maybe a pressure build up at lower RPM's that causes a misfire in the cylinders? At this point Im ready to buy the Mitsubishi manual to learn what to diagnose and to what readings I should be getting with the systems. Any thoughts from those of you with more experience would be great. Thanks

Rick

Ok...did a compression test today and all cylinders were 150psi +- 2psi. This is good. I also checked all the plugs and they are good with proper gap. It is not a cylinder or low compression problem and not a plug problem. Now to find out what it could be. Any ideas from anybody? Anyone? Anyone?

Since you swapped out the coils and the misfire didn't move, I'd say your next move would be to swap out the plug, then the plug wire. It's also possible you have a bad injector but ignition is more likely.
The O2 sensor problem might just be a bad sensor or connection at the sensor. What brand was used for replacement?

I think that I used a bosch? It was a generic connection not a mitsubishi fit. Im wondering if there is some way to monitor the cylinders while driving so I can see which ones are missing. Does anyone know of a program or tool that allows this? I also would like to know how to test the coils to see if they are the reason.

i have a 2001 mirage having misfire problems code saying cylinder 2. I have a friend saying he had same prob. but his was caused by mass air flow sensor. Knocks alot more when in Drive with AC on...turn AC off and problem stops...but still hesitates some during accel...anyone know if MAF would be the prob or where i should start...i changed all plugs..and problem persists

Ok.....It was the spark plugs. I actually let it go for a bit and finally took the plugs out and took a close look. I didn't think it would be the plugs because they were brand new. Well, apparently autolites are not the plugs to use. Put in some NGK's tonight and the missing, hesitation, and stalls went away. So simple and inexpensive. It was wierd to me that only cylinders 2 and 4 were missing....These cylinders do not have caps in the plug wires that clip onto the sparkplug...it is just a spring that presses down on the top of the plug. These werethe onses shorting out through the ceramic. When I looked close I could see burn spots on the plugs and some on the inside of the plug wire. New plugs and all is well. Hope this helps somebody besides me out there.

I have to add another note here because the hesitation came back after a couple of days. What I did next took it away. I added dilectric grease to the plugs and plug boots to stop the arcing. It works perfect. Going on 2 days again with no problems. I will report back if the missing comes back.

This the same exact problem i currently have ad im trying to fix it. It mainly happens when i drive on the highway for about 50minutes. Then when i stop, it seems like my tranny was idle on drive, when i pick up enough rpm, it kicks hard and finally accel. pretty wierd. my engine light is also on after i fill my transmission with fluid, then later found out it was leaking fluid, perhaps it mayn be full. well help here^^
