Has anyone rebuilt their power steering box?

My box is leaking from the top (where the steering shaft enters)Ive removed the top case and inspected the seal, it does look poo, I just rang the power steering specialists, They said a new seal kit is $70. Thats not bad...however the guy said that 90% of the time its not the seal.. its the hard chrome on the shaft itself... and a new seal wont stop the leak for long. He gave me a price on a re-con unit.. $700!!!!! :shock: :roll:

Has anyone else had this drama? any ideas on what i should do next? :(
