I tend to agree about the import fees and insurance. The costs for import cars here in the UK are silly in many cases, so I'd assume the US is no different.
On the plus side, we have the FTO here in the UK in both MIVEC and normal versions (steering wheel is on the wrong side for you guys though! lol)
I'm not sure if there is a V6 in other regions but the one we have is an I6 2.0 with either 4 valves per cylinder or 4v and MIVEC. You also see the odd one with a 4g63 DOHC, but I'm not sure if these are official versions or refits.
The MIVEC one in particular goes like stink for a standard car and makes the coolest noise in the world, lovely purring burble at idle and raspy scream at high revs (8000+ is possible on the MIVEC if the management is setup for it. That's on standard internals! I'm told you can get 10,000 on custom crank, rods, etc. Must take the valve springs to their limit, though.) Sounds like a race-tuned Jaguar I6, if you've every heard that?
I'm keeping my eyes open for an accident damaged one, as I'd custom kit the body anyway, just to be different. No luck so far, though, at anything like a sensible price.
Oh! One thing I have noticed. The drivers seat is really comfortable but the passenger seat isn't! Figure that one!
I know that probably doesn't help, but at least you know what FTO we have here.

QUOTE(BDperformance @ Aug 27 2005, 06:47 PM) its called the tiburon, buy hyundai; why,how so yoo ask? take a good long close look @ that 6g72 under the hood, yes i did say 6g72. AKA same engine as 3kgt/stealth. with only a few physical changes to throw the unknowledgeable off. and to top it off it comes with a 6spd.... :00000732: But the 6g72 was never fitted to fto's.Only the 6a12 and 4g92(not sure thats the correct code for the 1.8) And they didnt come with 6speeds either??5 speed manual and 4speed auto.i know mitsi and hyundai share components with alot of their cars and they share an engine factory in korea but i really dont believe the tiburon(or coupe as its known in europe)and fto where built from the same platform. :offtopic: Does anyone know if mitsi sell cars in korea?i cant find a website for them :offtopic:

The FTO certainly is a love it or hate it affair. Myself, I love mine. It is a 1995 GR model with a 6A13TT from a '97 Legnum transplanted. It is the quickest car I have ever been in, bar none. I am not saying it is the quickest car ever, but I haven't been beaten here yet. Check out my link on MSport for some pics and stuff. Recently put some adjusties in and will have pics updated soon. And for the person that said it is the same as a Tiburon, I beg to differ, a Tiburon is a lot longer than an FTO, my guess is they share the 3KGT chassis (known as a GTO here). Your Eclipse actually shares the identical chassis as our FTO. Here is an idea for all you poor yanks that can't get an FTO, think outside the box, buy an Eclipse and bolt all the body panels from an FTO onto it...my sources say they will fit. Have fun out there in Mitsi land

This 1.6litre engine is also fitted with Mitsubishi's MIVEC variable valve lift and timing system, which is very familiar with Honda's VTEC system. As a result of this, the engine is specified to produce 175ps i own the 4g93 colt gti 1.8 allthough mines only 140 psi i have loads more torque and beat the cyborg weird but true :)
