I have recently bought a shogun and it has no side steps on it, i was thinking of buying a pair online but was wondering how are they fitted and is it easy enough to at home, Or will I require a garage to install them. Thanks

here a picture of the same shogun as mine

Would a 1991 shogun side steps fit a 2000 year shogun.

Thanks

The sidesteps bolt on quite simply to your undercarrige so provided you get all the bits (bolts & brackets) it should be no problem to do yourself. I don't think that a 91 model will fit a 2000 as there were significant changes to the shape in 97.

Given the prestine look of your wagen I would be inclined to order some new ones from the Mitsi dealer rather than going 2nd hand. That way your ensured of getting the correct fitting components and all the bits. The money you save by doing yourself should outweigh the diff youi would pay for new parts.

I agree that if you put some on, make it new ones. Your beautiful car deserves it.

It is going to be rather costly, and you must ask yourself whether you are actually going to use it, or whether it is a mere "trimming". Look around, and you'll see that most people don't really use them. If you have aged people, kids or relatively short people using the car, the running boards may have some use. Otherwise I believe it only has aesthetic value. That value may deminish after your first rocky excursion - the runner boards tend to bend. Some remove theirs when doing off-road excursions as a preventative measure. On the other hand there is an argument that the runner boards are the first line of defense against lower body damage.

On a clean model like yours, the original parts look good. Some even have foot-lights to make them visible in the dark.

If you decide to do it, please show us a comparative picture...

Regards,
Anton

I have to say the support on this forum is outstanding, I am very greatfull to all for your advise, the main reason I ws asking the question, is because someone on ebay was trying to sell a pair of side steps for 1991 models onwards, I asked him a few questions about the item and sent him a link to this forum, for him to tell me what he thought, Surprise Surprise I got no reply from him , I again thank everyone for there help for saving me money on this. On the other hand if I do decide to get side steps, I will certainly post a pic to show you all, thake care guy's and have a good Xmas.

Thanks Alex.
