mitsubishi's engines are reliable, it is just that everybody who has one drives the hell out of it. I am guilty of this, as is most everyone on these forums. If mitsubishis were driven like hondas, meaning that old farts drove them as well, they would be right up there in reliability.
Plus it isn't engine block trouble that mitusbishi is known for, it is everything surrounding the block. Mitsu is bankrupt, and has been since the beggining of the 1990's, so therefore they cut corners wherever they can. However, their engines have remained the same for years, not really too much new technology. Therefore, the old(reliable) engine technology is still in place, it is the new stuff that ruins the reliabilty so quickly.
Back in the early 1900's mitsubishi started as a korean company making engines for heavy cargo trucks, they moved to japan following the end of WWI. Before the outbreak of WWII, they again started to mass produce engines for trucks, and a somewhat new idea, fighter aircraft. The japanese Zero, and it's many models, all used mitsubishi engines. It was known to be one of the most reliable planes in the war, following the american P-51 mustang and the german Focke-Wulf.
So it is partly mitsubishi that is unreliable, there history shows otherwise. Mostly it is the driver's fault.

I never said that Mitsubshi engines suck, I'm just saying that Honda's aren't that bad.
If someone said, here's $10,000 go buy a car. I'd have to choose between the following (and they would have to be unmodded, of course):
2G Eclipse GSX Toyota Supra Turbo MKIII Mazda RX-7 Nissan (Z or X of some sort)
See how Honda isn't on the list. It's because there's no such thing as a FWD sports car. I don't care for FWD and would never seek it in a "fun" car.

QUOTE(bobthecow @ Oct 20 2006, 12:46 PM) mitsubishi's engines are reliable, it is just that everybody who has one drives the hell out of it. I am guilty of this, as is most everyone on these forums. So it is partly mitsubishi that is unreliable, there history shows otherwise. Mostly it is the driver's fault. You also know that Kia and Hyundai both have helped build engines for Mitsubishi, right? Hondas aren't that bad, it's the people who drive them (the posertechs) that give them a bad name.
