Do I need to replace my standard coper radiater on my 1997 2.8TDI Pajero before using it for caravaning? According to local radiator dealer, these cars runs hot when towing. I found that temperature drops immediately when aircon compressor is switched off when heat guage moves up. Please advice?

Your standard radiator should be adequate for highway caravaning. These vehicles are designed for extreme situations.

Keep her in the lower gears longer when she works hard. That way the water-pump and fans work harder, and the engine takes less strain. If the temperature still runs upwards, you may have another problem. It could be a radiator problem, or a fan that doesn't work to spec or a thermostat. I would take it to the Mitsubishi dealer without delay. Overheating is fatal to the engine - especially the diesel.

I tow all the time with my 91 lwb auto pajero and the temp is rock solid always. It was the same on my last Pajero (89 lwb auto) and that had a huge bull bar with the big mits foglights infront of the grill too.

So look for something else as suggested,
If it only happens when the air con is on, then look there for trouble, in the way of the air-con pump malfunctioning.
If the fans are working when it's overheating, then the thermostat is a good place to look next...
