Hi Guys I have a 4g63

What are the usual things that need replacing when changing the timing belt?
I also have a oil leak somewhere in there I guess an oil seal!

What grade ATF are you guys using in your auto?

What grade of oil are we supposed to use in the engine?

timing belts most often require a water pump change as well as the tensioner unit/pulley.they may not be completely gone when you do the belt/belts but they as a rule would generally not make the next belt change so it save you timely repairs and costs to do them in conjunction with the timing belts.the oils is any semi-synthetic 10w40.as for the atf genuine mitsi oil is all I use(of course I work there so am a little biased)auto transmissions can deteriorate(to the point of failure) very quickly if the wrong oil is used.hope this helps

Thanks for the info on the oils etc.

I changed engine oil & filters.

Will do the auto next week.

Have dismantled timing assembly.

Discovered rear cam had jumped or been replaced one thooth out.

two of idlers ok but the one on the balance shaft is on the way out.

Not sure which oil seal was stuffed so have pulled all three lower ones to replace.

will get the parts tomorrow (I hope) & see how it goes.

Got it all done but had to wait for a day to get a bearing.

Took a long time to get the job done about 4 hours (not having the proper tools was a bugger)

Now I have discovered that the ignition timing is out as the last owner must have changed it to suit the cam being one thooth out.
(in fact he had not even bothered to tighten the nut holding the sensor) It was loose & was just hard back against the stop.

My timing light wont go so have to go buy a new bulb for it tomorrow.
