well with a car that has been sitting for 2+ years you should pull your plugs and wires and clean them... IMO get new ones.. your gonna have to sooner or later. they are old and probably a little dirty or corroded. I know it ran fine but they plugs and wires on these cars are really dam persnikity.

i did put new plugs in it in fact i had to 1 of the pluges had half a valve in it when me and mi friend got the head off . but it was runnin nkgs and the ones i got r alil bigger and dont really like to go in to the wires. it was a pain to get the wire off it to get it out of the head so i could check for the spark. also i was told i should probly put some fuel treatment in it so im goin to do that. also when i pulled the plug out the car had ran like 3 times on the bad gas on new pluga and they were all black so should i get new ones cn as i ran the old gas on those

ok, i have a few specific questions about my clipse not starting but cranking. ... see i pulled up to the store and my car had been running fine. went in got a dew and some papers, came out and she turned over but wont try and run, not a sputter or cough. so i know its eiter fuel or spark...well i checked for spark and didnt get one i tried a few differant spots in case i wasnt getting a good ground with the screwdrivers. changed coil, still wont start. couldnt check again for spark yrt....but i was wondering, instead of trying to get a spark from arcin it, cant i just leave the plug hooked to the wire and see if it makes a spark?

and my next question...if you dont hear your fuel pump could it be a relay or sensor or something keeping the pump from workin .i figured it may be a fuel problem. and when i turn the key to where the pump should prime, i dont hear it humming. of course i also had to listen myself and at a gas station where she still sits. (an after i spent about 400 bucks on fixin up her suspension yesterday, that evil ****,lol) so before i waste time and money on a fuel pump....is there some other things i should test/check first.

on a side note if its the pump i am goin warlboro and bigger, so i will need new injectors...could someone direct me to info on what combos of pumps injectors and stuff to upgrade? thanks alot and thanks to those who already answered questions from other folks. i have gotten this far on that advice...now i need a little more

yes get new plugs (again lol XD). as for the fuel treatment. your best bet is to completely drain the gas and fill her back up... safer that way.. fuel treatment is a joke imo...

:00000732: Hi oni and welcome. yea that sounds like your fuel pump relay. its on the driverside on the firewall there are like two or three there I think. I don't remember wich one it is so im sure a mod will jump in quick and inform you better but don't get a new pump till you check and or replace that.

thanx justice. i was hoping there would be something cheaper to check first, fuel pumps aint cheap an i would be boned if i fixed it an it was not even the problem. i am waiting to hear from a guy that has 2 97 parts cars i might can get the relays from. and if its not them, dont guess it would hurt to change them on a 11 year old car,lol

with the seat out and the fuel pump cover off an me sitting right over it i should hear it come on right?

an i pressed the pressure release on the fuel rail, gas slowly dripped, but didnt spray.... it should have had more pressure i think.even turned off it still should have some pressure built up on the lines right?

yeah there should def be more fuel pressure than that but if your relay has failed and you have tried starting your car the rail would have been depleted becuase it would have been injected but the fuel pump wouldn't have got fuel from the tank back to the rail. ... that was kinda a confusing explination. hope you got it. also if you are confident with digging around abit you should take off the rail and make sure it isn't clogged and just kinda check all your fuel lines in general for clogage.

yeah i get what your saying...basically without the pump to send more fuel, what was pressured up in the fuel rail would shoot through the injectors when i try to crank it, so it would be pretty much empty in the fuel rail when i pushed the pressure release valve.

i am gonna get the fuel pump and mpi relays tomorrow since i have to go to a dealership or something, i cant find relays for my car anywhere online. find a lot of stuff on differant boards that makes me pretty sure its one of those bastarded relays...just no where to get one without hitting a junkyard or a parts car, then you never know if that one relay you need is the whole reason some dummy sent an otherwise good car to the junkyard, lol. now since i have heard a few differant things i want to ask for sure....on my 97 non turbo, i saw a diagram that said the 2 relays were in the console behind the radio. however on here i heard folks say they were under the hood,on the firewall behind the battery kinda and infront of the steering wheel. i found both sets of relays, so which 2 am i replacing? under the hood or behind the radio?

if that dont work with the relays, lol yup i guess i am gonna get some good ol first hand knowledge of dsm dissassembly. also tomorrow i can go to the pawn shop an get a voltage meter an a check light so i will be more prepared and able to figure it out...i have only had a handfull of vehicles that were not carbourated v-8s so i am kind of trying to transition, this is just my second ricer an the other was an 94 rx-7,lol but i taught myself how to tweak on rotary motors with that one so i should be able to figure out the 420a. it is mostly when it comes to sensors and relays and various electrical and ecu gremlins that i am the most lost, lol

I was having this problem for the past couple of days and just today the car would not start up at all after it quit on me at a light. I asked a co-worker to help me and while he was plugging in the computer to read a code I asked if it could be the battery. He pushed the little red button on the side of my panel and it made a noise and when he turned the key the car started right up. After a couple of minutes it died again so he completely disconnected the alarm and it didn't quit on me after that.
