You are right...the Civic, from that year, is ULTRA light.

I have a hard time believe most or even a fair amount of hondas are "extremely" fast.

really light only helps so much. gobs of horsepower ALWAYS helps.

Drive one with over 500HP and you will know. The S2000 is extremely fast.

500 hp in a 200 rpm window still sucks. max horsepower does not win races. area under the curve wins races.

Honda Civic boosted, or S2000s NA, (can they even make 500 hp NA? I've never EVER heard of that, and they are hi rev and hi comp from the get go, so not much more there) the fact that you have to be HIGH into the RPM before they come alive hurts.

I've driven an S2000. it's a fun car. real light, and you can throw it around like a go cart, but it's not a fast car.

In a straight line there are plenty of cars that will light it up. in the twisties there are still quite a few cars that will make it look silly.

Plus, just from my experience, EVERYONE knows a guy with an uber fast civic that ran 8s in the 1/4 mile. when you FINALLY meet the guy face to face, he's a pretty normal guy that is good with cars, and likes his honda for what it is, but knows that it doesn't run 8s. it's USUALLY a solid low 13, high 12 second car, and because he's out there beating f-bodies that "claim" mods and times, but can't live up to them in real life everybody assumes the Civic is fast as hell. The owner knows the truth, and usually won't bullsh*t, especially when talking to another car guy that "knows" and wants to run him.

And that's AFTER wading through the hundreds of honda fanboys with mom's civic that claims 12 second quatermiles with just an air filter, an exhaust, (usually just a muffler on the stock stuff) and some goofy sticker/paint job/visual enchancement for the rest of the mods.

I mean honestly, how many civics or S2000s have you seen IN REAL LIFE with 500 or plus hp? I've been to quite a few tracks, 1/4 and road, and have yet to see more than three. and if they are making that much hp, there on full slicks with no interior, and traction bars. (civic, not S2000, I haven't seen ANY of those in real life)

WOW...well where to start.

I worked with a Honda tech with a 500HP S2000 that was almost bare-bones. No, it wasn't all peak horsepower in a 200RPM curve.

I haven't seen a 500HP Civic, either, but then again, I HAVE seen a lot of 500HP cars, and have driven a lot of them, too. Hell, I'd dump the Civic and stick with an E36 M3, which I have experience with, too.

As far as beating F-bodies, yeah, great car, but HEAVY.

I don't care what anyone says about anything, honestly, because I have the experience to back up what I've said. I have worked on many cars in my life, some fast, some slow. So, whatever. No biggie.

My buddy Ethan from BMW:

'99 Civic hatch. No interior except for racing seats and dash/door panels. FULL Dart Racing LS Integra block/head, 8.5:1 compression, non-VTEC, and a Garrett T3/T4 Hybrid turbo running 25lbs. of boost. You ask if I've ever seen it, I've DRIVEN IT. It is lowered 2.5" on Skunk2 coilovers with an Integra Type-R 5speed LSD transmission and full Skunk2 exhaust. The thing is FAST...in every sense of the word.

Oh, yeah, his every day car is an S2000 if that tells you anything.

How much did he spend getting 715hp do the ground in that fwd. It is impossible to do without thousands of dollars of suspension, axel, and transmission mods.
