I have a 2001 GDI Pinin which appears to be suffering from severe pinking at 2500-3000 rpm. I use ordinary unleaded. Should I use premium or try an octane booster? Advice appreciated.

GDI's are high compression engines and need to run premium fuel (96 octane +).

If you don't you will get deposits in your cylinders and clogged injectors which will shorten your engine life. Don't expect to get better economy or performance from running premium unless you already have a bad problem. Put some injector cleaner in your tank and hope that your problem goes away or else you are probaly looking at removing, cleaning and re-calibration the injectors.
