hi i test drove a 2004 subaru wrx sti the other day and i noticed a skitch on the dash that read"I/C water spray" i guess it means intercooler water spray. doese any one know how it works? Here is a link to a picture to the switch scroll down the page and you will see it :liebe011:

It sprays water on the intercooler to cool it down. From what I remember, it's a top mount intercooler, the engine can heat that baby up. Front Mount Intercoolers (FMIC) don't really need a water spray since it's cooled down by air, and it's not sitting directly over the engine.

front mount intercoolers can still benefit from water sprayers. they will still heat soak if driven aggressively or improperly sized or mounted.

many people will also set up some other type of sprayer, such as CO2 or nitrous, as it will chill the intercooler below ambiant temperature and cool the air going into the motor even more.
