A friend was having trouble starting his 89 Magna. I suggested a few things to check but none of which seemed to be causing the problem. He noticed that the oil level was very low (not reading on the dipstick), so he added about 2 litres. Following this the car started perfectly.

I have never heard of this before. Was this just a coincidence or do Magnas have some kind of sensor that cuts ignition if the oil level is dangerously low?

Cheers

when I lived in canada and worked as a mechanic, there are some vehicles that will not start if there is insufficient oil pressure which sounds like the fault you described.this is designed in as a safety feature to keep you from doing very expensive engine damage.as well some mitsubishi vehicles use oil pressure for things like the timing chain tensioner or to operate the mivec systems.best find out where his oil is going and sort it.
