HI I have a 1985 l3004wd SD model that i replaced the original 2.0 Sirius motor with a 2.6 Astron motor. After about 250.000 k's it is due for a rebuild due to timing chain sprocket wear and increased oil consumption. Does any one have some improved performance tips other than turbo charging. The 2.6 Astron currently is standard except for extractors.I have heard that the Astron II head has bigger valves and hydraulic tappets. Can this head be used. I have a good condition Astron II motor but it is not compatible with gearbox and sump. Does any one have experience with the oil pump conversion kit that eliminates the balance shafts.

For interest the van runs 15 x 7 rim with 30 x 9.5 BFG all terrains. It has the limited slip diff and power steering options. It has a 2" body lift kit to fit the 2.6 motor and larger wheels. I have also fitted a second fuel tank behind side step area to give total capacity of 100 litres. also fitted dual battery with simple solenoid activation. The alternator has been rewired to "delta" configuration to increase output and reduction geared starter motor fitted.

Any Comments on Motor Modifications would be appreciated.

Use the astron II motor along with the magna fuel injection. Should give better performance and keep some fuel economy.

Astron II motor came out of a Sigma so it is the carby version. Im not sure that i need the hassle and cost? of changing to the magna fuel injection system. the existing astron2.6 sump does not fit Astron 2 sump as they are different width. According to local wreckers the sumps with deep end at rear are hard to find.
