Got the same problem. Did you solve it? What was the problem exactly?

mine also has this.. personally i think its the clutch 'bouncing'. I serously dont think its coil packs or igniton problems, or it would be manifesting itself at other times ie under load.

Clutches can get a hard spot/glazed or deformed area.. and it can cause judders. Weird that were all experiencing it though.. perhaps its a common carisma fault.

ive got the same problem but on a lancer..
i too think its the clutch since it was replaced around 12000km ago by the previous owner. if it isnt the clutch, its a warped flywheel..

but the problem also occurs when car is stationary and transmission in neutral and if i rev it.

nope still got the problem, changed the coil packs still no difference. got them cheap on ebay, £30 for the pair (and they work). the problem seems to be worse when the weather is colder. just wondering if it could be something to do with the auto choke. my uncle had a similar problem with a ford focus.

i dont want to keep paying out on parts not needed, but want to get it fixed as i look bit stupid pulling away. but its good crowd pleaser lol

well, you were already advised it wasnt ignition (coil pack) problems..

You've also been advised its more than likely the clutch. Carismas DO SUFFER from this. The reason is most likely down to a leaking seal depositing oil on the clutch. The reason its worse when its cold is because the oil is burnt off the clutch after a few minutes driving.. in the cold weather it takes longer.

Go down the clutch route.. Clutch judder is VERY distinctive.. if (as you say) you are relatively new to this, then get a garage to check it. They'll diagnose it in two minutes.Clutch judder makes the whole car shake, whereas igntion or fuel problems make the engine jerk or lurch.. there is a noticeable difference between the two.

Sorry to be harsh.. but you're not listening to advice... which is, after all, why you came on here.

Oh, and dont waste your time going down the 'automatic choke' path.

Hi! I've recently had my Carisma fixed by my local authorized dealer/shop. The problem i was experiencing was that the car was almost impossible to start in cold weather, which is simply unacceptable where i live in northern Sweden in the winter. It was also randomly misfiring at idle and especially pulling away from stop lights and such. While accelerating it would misfire as well and the problem could almost be described as jumping, although it was more of a jerking/lurching.
The problem turned out to be that the entire distributor had to be replaced, not just its cap and rotor, the whole thing. After that it hasn't missed a beat and always starts right up in -20 deg C without the electrical heater (i use it when i can, but don't always have a socket to plug it in to). I'm hoping it'll start up down to -40 deg C as it can get really cold here.
Something to look into maybe?

I too have this problem, it's not been so bad since changing the oil, flushing it and changing the lambda sensor but it's still there... it's not as much a jump as a bounce as when i take my foot off the accelerator it's as if the car's power dies after a moment or two. it only happens in first and second and only when i'm crawling along such as when i'm stuck in traffic.

it's very hard to explain what it feels like but it's when i'm slowing down i take my foot off the accelerator and slowly come to a halt, but once the engine gets to about 1000RPM it's as if it dies and suddenly there is massive engine breaking that makes the car nose dive.

i thought it was just a coked up throttle body at first but i cleaned it and it still didn't help, it's as if the car is loosing a lot of low end torque and i don't know why. does this sound familiar to any of you guys?

Oh sweet! I thought it was just me and that I was driving wrong!

In first gear, it feels like the car is going to die and then it jerks and lurches until I give it more gas. happens in 2nd as well which is a problem as I live in a 30 km/hr zone with loads of speed bumps.

I had it into the Norwegian equivalent of the AA who did a really thorough "guarantee test" and it passed everything except exhaust emissions standards so the dealer fixed that.

But the jumping/lurching thing hadnt occurred to me as a problem and I thought I was just driving badly. So I didnt mention it.

Its a real hassle in town but I have found myself lately stepping on the clutch a bit which seems to smooth it out a bit.

But it isnt the whole car shake mentioned earlier. I can definitely feel it happening "up front" so to speak.

problem finally solved after a year. the problem was that there was a slight split in the air pipe from the filter to the engine. and that it was not getting the correct air it needed.
