Hi Members,

I am having few problems with my space wagon recently. On start point it start rev ups and down automatically, even in motion or still position. ECU is refurbished recently and working fine without any problem. I suspect may be a sensor in the feedback loop to send signal to ECU to not control rev automatically and that fail. Any of member, witness this sort of problem before and what was the solution.

Your input appreciated.

By the way the model of the car is Space Wagon, 1994, 2.0 Glxi , petrol.

 Hi.
I just came on board to ask the same question. Recently My 1995 RVR Space waggpn 2 litre started doing the same. I was advised to remove & clean the idle motor unit. Did this & it seemed ok for 2 days only.
soemtimes revs High on start & sometimes snuffs out, Have to adjust throttle stop every day up & down. It seems that if you do anything involving disconnecting plugs it comes right for short time only. Next suggestion was remove & clean Temp sensors for good earth, which did'nt work.If going ok, when Air Con turned on it starts reving up & down - Elec cluth on compressor clicks on & off with the rev changes. turning AC off restores regular speed. ?????????????

I also would lke some ideas.

Cheers

By cleaning the injector, the problem seems sorted for a while now but someone suggested change the air flow sensor, this unit sits at the back of air filter compartment. If problem appear again I will change the above sensor. I am not sure that will help or not?

Anyone who has better idea please share with members.

I've come accross this problem before, from memory it is the idle stepper motor generally located on the throttle body. if you take them out (or if easy to get to do it in place) you could use a ohm metre accross the terminals to check the coils. I think there's four pins but they were joined in a way that if you tested two close together they were half the reading as if you tested each ends, anyway, if you got a 0 reading the unit needed to be reconditioned. In New Zealand we sent them to an ECU electrician for re-co. Cost about $80 Wholesale. I think some people were charging $150-$300 for 2nd hand which could still be faulty...

Hope this helps some one

Hi all!

I have had this same problem for a while now and it is really beginning to p**s me off!

I had taken it down to a garage to have it tested on a diagnostic machine, but the mech could find nothing wrong with it and said the only thing he could think of was the airflow meter was knackered.

I replaced it with one I purchased from an online spares website. It kind of fixed the problem.

Now, it only does it every so often. Sometimes as soon as it starts up, sometimes in mid journey, but it doesn't conk out on me anymore.

Along with this I now have another problem. It loses power when I try and "put my foot down". For example, I try to pull out of a busy junction, I see a space, try to pull out ......... and nothing happens exept a total loss of power.

It does this in any gear as long as it's under 2500 rpm. As soon as I hit that, it's fine!! but you can see how frustrating this would be I'm sure!!

If anyone has anymore helpful hints on either of my probs, (and I will be trying the one's suggested above)PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!! It would be greatly appreciated!

I can understand your frustration with regards to this intermittent fault, I been through the nightmare with an identical fault. The problem is within throttle body of the car. There is small mechanical plastic part with has 4 slots where a mechanism move for correct working condition, in my case was broken.

I strongly recommend that you do not buy full throttle body because there is compatibility problem from car to car even with identical model. I think manufacturer calibrate with computerized equipment to tune stepper motor and idle control valve and idle revs of the car, prior to sell.

Procedure:

Disconnect the battery and disconnect big vacuum pipe from throttle body end first. Disconnect link water hoses; you need pliers to remove the metal clips to release the water hoses. Remove tiny vacuum hoses from the throttle body end and remove cable plug that is top end of the throttle body.

Now undo the two bolts and isolate the unit from car by removing the only cable connector.

Do not disturb any other setting of the parts on the throttle body unit. You will see two Philips screws, those are holding a metal cover, remove these screws you will see under cover couple cogs and might be a piece of broken part of gray cylindrical mechanism. Remove last screw and a tiny metal clip. Now you unscrew the gray broken part from the unit.

Cleaning:

• Buy a carburetor cleaning product, clean the throttle body both sides of butter fly plate. Make sure that the cleaning liquid will not go through the tiny holes to idle control valve or stepper motor ends. I put kitchen towel to block the carburetor cleaning to not go through holes.
• Remove carbon entirely inside the hole. Get the identical part from second hand car from your local area’s yard. If you have difficulty I can send you one, I had in my possession, which I removed when I had problem with my car. Now screw new part fully in the hole and put small metal stopper at its position and assemble rest of parts in reverse order.
• Buy a new throttle body gas kit if you can, it will cost you around two ponds. However your existing gas kit will be good. Good luck if you needed any further help let me knows.
