Help out there please?

I ahve a 1.6 1999 Carisma that sounds like it keeps dropping onto 2 cylinders I have been told it could be the plug extender from the ignition coil on top of the engine ?? Any ideas ?anyone else been plagued with this. Are there any tests which can be done to identify this? Its my first Bushi and I love it but have not dared to take it to a main dealer for fear of what they charge ! Otherwise a very good car despite what Clarkson may say !!
