why was the evo 6 and 7 never shipped to america?

The Evo was intended only for the Japanese markets. After the demand for the car went up, they decided to sell limited quantities to the European market. The Evo didn't come to America until after Mitsubishi saw how well the Subaru WRX was selling, that was in 2003 (The start of the Evo 8).
