Hi, just purchased an 07 Outlander with Navigation! I was assured I could plug in my Ipod into the jack on the bottom of the Nav when it is open. Well, it doesn't do anything. Anyone know what that jack is for?

I called the dealer and they didn't know. ...Isn't that funny!!

I thought I would ask fellow Outlander owners with Nav....

Any ideas?.........Is it in the back of the unit under the dash?....Please don't tell me that the Navigation has a harddrive, but can only take songs from cd's!!!??!!

Thanks in advance for any and all answers...!!

It is my understanding that the jack on the nav is for Nav updates. I was told that the ipod jack is behind the counsel. There is a flip down area where you can plug 3 things in to. I do not have an IPod...so have not used this feature.

Just purchased by Outlander with Navi and Ent packagage. I was able to operate my iPod thru the RCA jacks located behind the front arm rest. You need a cable that has the mini-connector that goes into the iPod headphone plugin on one end, and red and white RCA jacks on the other end. Plug the red and white into the the 2 audio jacks and leave the video jack empty. Then activate the entertainment system and it plays the iPod music thru the sound system.
I've asked my dealer to advise me how to direct input the iPod. He is investigating and will advise. He also said that it should be possible to load iPod songs to the hard drive (which would be a lot quicker than loading cd by cd.
If he finds out how this is all done, I'll pass it on.

I think your dealer doesn't know what he's talking about, well, as in the case of most dealers, including mine. Truth is, the Navi with HDD only records songs from CD-Audio, and encodes it to its own proprietary MP3 format. And any saved MP3s in the HDD cannot be played on regular MP3 players because of its proprietary format, granting you find a way to rip them off the HDD in the first place.

I am more inclined to believe that Navi updates will be CD/DVD based rather than using that jack beneath the navi screen. This is how navteq currently updates their database, and I don't see anything special with the Outlander to deviate from this standard update process.

One thing that works quite well is creating a special audio DVD from MP3 files (note: merely copying MP3's to a DVD will not work properly). You can get a fairly large number of songs on a single DVD this way. (Note: you'll need special software such as "Audio DVD Creator", "Apollo Audio DVD Creator", or "Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 Suite" to create an audio DVD).

What did you use to make yours? You listed some software, I was just curious what you used exactly.
I have nero v.6 but it doesn't seem to want to convert mp3's (for some reason it only wants m4p or aac files) for the process so I thought I'd look into something else to do it. Thanks for the tip, you saved me from making a few dvd coasters. Thanks again.
