Hi there everybody, just found this forum and thought somebody might be able to help! Does anybody know where the purification filter for the aircon is situated in my 2001 Montero 3.2DiD LWB. I had the system tested this morning and it's all in 100% working condition but due to a sweet/sickly smell when aircon is on, the engineer thought that the filter might need changing.

Its called a pollen filter and from what I've been told its right behind the glove box. I understand that it is not all that obvious to find so you will have to search a bit and possibly dissasemble the ducting. You probably have one in the back as well to supply the rear passengers.

Thanks Jim, found it, easy to remove just 2 screws, filthy dirty, gave it a vacuum but guess I'll have to replace it. Cheers

I belive that they are washable. I would just try and give it a short soak in some soapy water, rince and let dry in the sun. Even if it isn't a true cleanable one it should hurt to give a try. I must have a look at mine someday.

A company called FORTE have a very good air con cleaner that removes bacteria and smell. Just run your air con on recycle mode and set spray can off in the bottom vents, shut the doors let do its job.

They also do petrol/gas and diesel treatments work well for emmissions tests.
