I'm having some issues locating the source of error code P0403 (EGR solenoid) on my 2000 Mits Eclipse Spyder. There seems to be power to the solenoid (about 5v), which appears to work. Can I also check for loose hoses, etc? I've been lazy about fixing this since the warning light came on, but the car just failed emissions because the warning light is on.

I've replaced the PCV valve, and the suction on the PCV hose seems strong.

Thanks for any help, I'm pulling my hair out... :)

Greg

also, does anyone know what a "MB991502 scan tool" is? Is this something that I can buy or is it only obtainable by the trade? It seems to be a required diagnostic tool.

Yep, the MB991502 scan tool is a listed in every P-coded diagnostic procedure I've read. I don't think it's available to consumers. You could always stop by the dealer and ask. I've found scan tools at www.northerntool.com in the automotive tool section

http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/sto...81374_200181374

Don't know if it will give you the info that the Mitsubishi Scan Tool will give you.

Every EGR solenoid problem I've seen is that it gets stuck open or closed. You most likely will have to replace it.
