Hi everyone

I have a new Outlander XLS and need to add a plug for a trailer with electric brakes. The dealer installed tow bar has a flat four plug and I need to add a round six or seven. I noticed a hatch in the rear bumber which comes off easily. The inside of the hatch reads "towing cover". Is this meant to be the location for the recepticle I need to install? My dealer indicated Mitsubishi did not sell any type of adapter for trailer with brakes. Any help would be appreciated.

That is likely the location for the European wiring connector to be located. They have much different hitch set-ups and a much different standard round plug. Fro what I saw while in Europe last month, most are mounted right to the back bumper of car in about the position where that little removable cover is. Here is a picture of one from a VW EU PLUG

You will have to add a brake controller and get a 4 flat to 6 round adapter and wire your brake controller into that. Here is an example of one 4 flat to 6 round & 4 flat

I beleave this is for the tow adapter for towing your outlander, adapter is located in the jack stowage compartment behind right rear tail light. As for the wiring connection for trailer lights its located behind the right rear tail light with access gained thru the jack stowage compartment. I have been to Mitsubishi and they confirmed that the connection is behind the right rear tail light and that it simply plugs in, no cutting and splicing of wires needed.
