Hi, I would love to find out how to get my (old) new 89 L300 back onto the road.

The motor has been rebuilt and is installed, BUT, ive taken the alarm out and have reconnected the wiring as per normal use...

I am UNABLE to get the motor to turn over at all!

I need to find out where all the wires are supposed to be connected?

I have the DOOR LOCK fuse blowing constantly ( number 20 I think )

Can I try to go around the key ignition to find out if the starter motor will kick over?? there is a few different wires going into it but how it works... I have no idea.

um, yea.

I would love to get this running asap and any support making it work would be GREAT!

Thanks

Thanks so much for that!!!! now I got the motor turning over, but it wont start...

I am trying to find out what how to wire the Ignition Coil and Distributer wires together properly, it seems easier than it looks....

I have a three wires coming from the ignition ( black white ) ( black red ) and a ( White ) wire.

I have only two wires coming from the distributer.

The positive and negative bit i understand, just how to make them work I dont know

WOULD SOMEONE HAVE A PHOTO OF THEIR L300 Motor Bay so I can see what wires go where? ( hehe ) sorry for being so dumb but I have a resistor with two connections and a ignition coil thingy with two connections and 5 wires....

Thanks !!!!

Hi Ya!

Try it this way as it works on my van
Electronic distributor wires are as follows BLACK AND WHITE TO BLACK AND WHITE. SMALLER TACHO WIRE TO BLACK AND RED AT PLUG... DO NOT USE THE BLACK AND RED WIRE RUNNING BACK TO LOOM

Hope it works for you

done.

ok so that part is sussed!

Now the little bugger wont start... meaning turns over, got spark, just not firing!

it will continuelly turn over, I do smell a little bit of gas and after taking the air filter off, I can see one side(passanger side) has a little bit of fuel going into it, the other side(drivers side) is as dry as a bone. I took the petrol line off and blew into it to make sure the block wasnt there, (yes I got gas in my mouth! haha) and still no joy... hmmm. what would lassie do?

should i put gas into the carb to try and kick it into action?

um, what else can I try to get this 2.0petrol motor alive and kicking????

Mr I love Mitsubishi !!!

Now we will check your ignition timing
Take out number 1 spark plug. Put for finger over the hole and SLOWLY turn the motor over until you can feel the compression building up. That way you know its on the compression stroke. Put a rod / stick or something similar down the hole so you can feel the top pf the piston (make sure you dont drop ti in!) Slowly turn mtr until you feel the stick come up as high as it will and then start to go back down again. Rock crankshart backwards and forwards untill you reckon stick is as high as it can be. Have a look at crank pully and you will find your timing marks. Clean them and put a spot of white paint on dimple in pully flange.,Turn mtr Backwards so dimple and the 10 no the timing cover line up. (its only a little bit of a turn)
Take distributor cap of and see if brassy bit of Rotor button is pointing to number one spark plug lead Might help to mark distributor where number one is. Have a look inside distibutor and see if the round ring with four little points (Pointing outwards) are lined up with a similar thing surrounding it (with points facing inwards)
IF they are not....Take out distributor and turn gear on the end to move rotor button one way or the other untill everything lines up. Remember when you refit distributor it will turn a bit so you must allow for that.
Stick it all back in and when you get the points lining up and the rotor button pointing toward number one lead you have successfully timed your engine to aprox 10 degrees before TDC. It might take a few goes before you get it right ....Have fun

well, actually...no.

but.

im now familar with exactly what I gotta do.

i just didnt have a spark plug remover... so I kinda thought Ide wait till pay day and whip down the road and finally get one.

and i learnt alot about motors and what parts did what and why... its hard to admit I dont know much when it comes to fuel motors, but its fun learning the hard way by doing it myself. Yea. satisfaction of making something dead come back to life is overwhelming.

lets just hope the rest of the donkey can run as per most other L300's like a well oiled machine.

regards,

Mat.

ooookaaaaayyyy, so when you wrote a bit of FUN, i can see your sense of humor.. well, I guess you didnt know the radiator is still in, and to access all the areas you need to do such a job, are somehow harder than you think... there is no quick way to do this job. gotta go take the radiator out now! wish me luck.

I tried the old turn the motor around to get the cylnder head to top, move the distributor thingy, restart... etc etc and couldnt FLUKE it by just turning the belts around a bit by hand, then putting the distributor back in with the rotor turned around in a LUCKY guessed position where one might be... etc. and of course it didnt work did it.

****!

gotta just do it the proper way first time, this time today. got the spark plug remover and it's the ****! works like a bought one.

This kiwi isnt gonna stop for lunch till my battery is flat and my skin on my knuckles are ripped raw from parts of the motor.

Mr Bonding with my Mitsubishi L300. (grin.)

okay. Motor, when all ignition tuning is right, fires pretty allright, BUT talk about smokey stuff coming out the back exhaust... hmmm. seems like either i got to put the radiator back on to fix the white/grey smoke coming out the back, OR rip the head off and rebuild motor... NOT. Im gonna find me a nother one.

Anyone know of a good working motor to fit straight up to this old gearbox and blah blah blah in this model I got? something that runs well and doesnt chew up gas? perhaps even if a diesel motor fitted right in? is that possible? worth a crack aye nigel.

model... um. its got a cyclone badge on it under the L300 model name on door. what is that then?

or is this a good trademe(ebay) item?

bugger.
