Hi

i have a 99 1.3 colt spacestar, is this the same engine as a regular colt? if so i have a problem with mine that hopefully someone can shed some light on i have posted in spacestar section but it seems this section gets a lot more hits so i though id ask

I don't believe it's the same engine regular colts usually have, but I also don't know a lot about them. I believe regular colts come with 1.5 and 1.8 engines, atleast here in the US.

Yes the 1.3 in spacestar is basically the same engine as in colts and carismas(more so with carisma,built at same time in same factory) in europe..But youve failed to ask the question you needed answered...so with a bit of magic...heres the question

i was driving my spacestar 1.3 today and it suddenly cut out, now i cant start it and have no idea what it might be. When i turn the key it turns over and the engine management light goes off but wont spark into life. When i lifted the bonnet i noticed a shorting out/electric arcing noise from what seems the bottom of the engine, can anyone give me any advice?

Thanks guys

heres what ive found so far, i have no spark at the plugs, i do have fuel, i have changed the rotor arm as it looked a bit rough, the dizzy cap is ok, i had a friend plug in a pro diagnostic comp but it did not show any faults, so im thinking either the crank sensor, coil pack ? i hope it isnt the ecu but the engine warning light goes off when you turn the key, what do you guys think?

How common is a problem with the distributor or parts of it ie coil pack, crank position sensor?
As i have explained above my car just cut out and would not start. Every scrap yard i have tried has the colt engines in but the distributor has been taken which leads me to think that maybe it happens frequently?
