Mine is 1998 spacewagon 2.4 gdi and has the same problem. The dealer said it may due to leakage of engine oil (that's why blue smoke on acceleration). I have tried some engine restorers but it didn't help. I just sent it for engine rebuild. Hope it of help.

kev,

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago when the engine was cold and I used a 'forte' garage supplied injector cleaner type fuel treatment, it had barely scraped through the emissions for the previous years test as the paperwork came with the car. Added it to the tankful of fuel and did a couple of hundred miles and the smoke disappeared completely,it was about a tenner at the time and I'm not saying that it would do the same to your car only that it might be worth trying.

At the next MOT 10 months down the line the emissions were so low they barely registered which was unexpected and it's gone through another one since then too with similar results. Due again late august and I'll be running another can through it before that one too although there's still no smoke.

Hi Kev,
the eroneous quote about an oil pump in 1998 was withdrawn as unsubstantiated.
Ametech can fix anything that is worn metal on metal but not if something is broken.
