Not sure about this, dont know anyone whos put 17s on spacestar. But the et is around 40 isnt it?so youd want to stick close to that.I dont think youll need to do any work to the arches or that,is it lowered?

putting 17" on will greatly reduce your acceleration and performance as the tyres will most likely be wider than the stock.I went from 13" to 14" on one of my old fords with a 1.6petrol and it was very noticably.as well it will increase fuel consumption.the bright side is I have 17" on my carisma and it handles much tighter on corners but mine is a diesel so power loss is not noticable.best suggestion is to see your local aftermarket tyre supplier.any good supplier will be able to tell you what size rim and tyre you can fit.that is there job.only reason I recommend this route as with most new wheels-once you fit the rubbers to them you cannot return them if they are wrong. In the UK i used south west tyres for mine and they were very good to deal with as well as carring a huge amount of stock.

It's not lowerd.

I want to put 17 inch. The local tireshop tells me i can put 16 inch with 195-45-16 or 205-45-16 tires. The ET is 45 on the original wheels so 42 must do I think.

I think I can put 205-40-17 wit et 42 on the space star but would like that confirmed before I order.

I fitted the 205/40 17s on my carisma and have slight issues with rear rubbing when heavy loaded. As my arches are larger than the space star I would think they will be a very big problem for you.your local shop is most likely correct as it is there trade and what they are paid to do.17"wheels are more common and in most cases cheaper to fit rubbers on so I am sure they would sell you them if they could be fitted.the only other thing I can think of is to check with the supplier I got mine from.you can find them online easy enough and they seem to be very switched on when it comes to tyres. anyway- South West Tyres(swtyres.co.uk)
