Hahn's kit is so precise that gauges aren't necessary but a VERY nice thing to have. The most important one would be some kind of air/fuel monitoring device. Not just one of those stupid ones that plug in to your stock o2 sensor. The ones I mean are the ones that use their own wideband o2 sensor like the AEM UEGO Wideband. With a "home made" turbo system a boost guage would be just as important as the wideband, but since hahn's kit is very precisely put together it isn't the top priority.

The ones that I like to have other than the wideband are (in order of importance):
1. Boost
2. Oil pressure
3. Coolant temp
4. Battery voltage

Most are relatively easy to install and come with instructions. There are only a few that are more difficult like the wideband. You have to weld a bung in your downpipe for the new sensor to fit.

Quick Question, if I got me a Turbo off an 03 Evo, with the exhaust manifold and everything

no i'm not saying that you will NEVER need gauges. I'm only saying that if you are strapped for cash they can wait a little bit. But like EMC said atleast get a cheap one until you have money for the better ones.

it would work but you would have to have a custom exhaust manifold made. Almost all aftermarket exhaust manifolds for your car won't allow a mitsubishi turbo to bolt up.

you have a different engine than the turbo cars and the evos. please read the FAQ. it will help you get some basic information about your car

You have a 420A motor in your car

You bought a manifold for a 4G63T

I bought a used autometer peak hold with memory and warning for $40 on ebay.

click me here

that is the manifold you need, however you can't use the turbo you have with this manifold.

This manifold and the turbo you have don't have the same mating flanges. basically any turbo you get from any mitsubishi won't bolt to any aftermarket manifolds for the engine you have. you should be looking for a t3 turbo. not a generic one, a good one like garrett or something like that.

if you do find a manifold that will let a mitsubishi turbo bolt up, it was probably made in someones garage

I have a friend that used one of those $800 turbo kits for his cavalier. It did ok, but he had to cut, straighten, fabricate, weld, ETC all kinds of stuff that was supposed to just "bolt on." The car has since died, don't know if it's related to that cheap-o kit or not but the bottom line is: you get what you pay for and the turbo ALONE should cost around $500 brand new. not $500 for the entire kit

Well I dont have a boost guage LOL on either of my DSM cars. One is factory turbo ofcourse though. I just changed out the factory turbo guages with my non turbo dash guages. I dont use a boost controller either. If I did I would have some sort of guage. If I used a boost controller it would be electronic like the Apexi AVCR , which has a guage and sensor anyway :)
