How about swapping a Evo 3 motor into a 1g Eclipse. Is it that bad? I have a Laser with the motor in it, but its wrecked, found a cheap 1g eclipse.

okay heres my veiw on it. the 420a is a moparbishi engine the shop that helped me out pretty much broke it down its basicly the same block youll find in a srt4 the diference is the liters where the intake manifold & exhaust mani r located srt is also built to handle the turbo kit from the factory its like the building block to what we know as srt4 ican almost promise people who build the 420a will not be disapointed this block was underestimated for a long time but now is proving worthy of time hahnracecraft.com has a 501hp 420a and a 600hp on prototype parts google,or live.com type eclipse rs or 420a video youll find many people who are taking that next step and successfully pulling it off youll also see a supercharged 420a in action sounds wild. believe it or not but 420a has lots of support so its all up to preference and let the best tuner win dsm baby... :gunsmilie:

Scratch my previous post, i found two websites with 4g63 N/T to Turbo conversions. here are the links for other people out there who are crazy enough to attempt this.

4g63 NT to Turbo (1)
4g63 NT to Turbo (2)

no you cannot swap a 4g63 into a 420a engine bay its a waste of money.dont do it nothing is the same.just tell him to sell you the whole car and fix it.with all that money you going to put in a money eating swap.

probably why the main reason ppl wont swap a 4g63 into a 2g eclipse is because everythings backawrds....so i think you'd be paying triple what you normally would because of the motor mounts and everything else....

my boy wants my motor in his 2g eclipse and i said just get the turbo motor for the 420-a and you'll be hapy

bout 60 extra horses if you just swap the stock 4g63t

i red the numbers for an eclipse with a 2.0 liter 4g63 and its about 135hp stock

4g63t motors are producing around 190 hp stock.

Hi there. Newb here. I have read and re-read everything I can find on what I am about to ask so if it is B2D I appologize upfront.

I currently drive a '99 Eclipse Spyder with a 4g64 stock. I am having some issues that I believe are crankwalk but I have gotten mixed feedback on that....but that is besides the point.

I want to know if anyone has swapped a 6G72 into a 2G Eclipse before. I have read of the conversion but no one has any pictures to prove it. I have a line on a fairly affordable 6G72 TT out of a 3000GT and to be honest I can get this engine cheaper than getting the parts to turbo my existing engine.

Does anyone have any information that can help me with this swap? Any suggestions would be nice...any help offered gladly accepted....any money offered will just go to my wife and kids anyway so keep it in your wallet =P.

Thanks in advance.

Jae

i have an automatic 97 420a (120K miles) and i just purchased a salvaged, standard 97 gsx (89K miles) with rear body damage, but with no mechanical damage at all. i've read through this post and i couldn't find anything on anyone who had a complete gsx to swap the motor out of into a 420a. is there anything i will need other than what is already on the gsx that i would need to make a complete swap....engine, standard tranny, and awd unit? is there anything else besides these 3 things that i would need like the fuel tank, etc?

thanks,
beaver

it's easier to remove the rear body panels from your 420a car and weld them to the gsx then it is to remove all the mechanical stuff, wiring harness and everything else to the 420a car

let's simplify all this swapping stuff:
you have a 420a car 95-99 non turbo.
and you have a GSX 95-99 turbo

you basically have to take EVERYTHING OFF the whole way down to each nut, bolt and plastic clip of the gsx down to nothing but a unibody/frame with body panels on it. Then take EVERYTHING off of your 420a car the whole way to the unibody/frame. Then put ALL the gsx stuff on to the 420a cars frame. This includes wiring, clips, ties, plumbing, bushings, grommets, seals, guages, shifter, cables, bolts, nuts, fuel system, fuel tank, suspension, axles, transmission, engine, transfer case, drive shaft, brakes, spindles, control arms, lateral arms, sway bar, ,,,,,,,,EVERYTHING

simple enough

the difference between these models isn't that they just have extra parts. One model has diamond star (mitsubishi) construction. the other has Mopar (dodge) construction. even though they are made by the same company and are compatible with some things they aren't compatible on many things.

its kinda like taking a wheel barrow and turning it into a go cart. it can be done but it's rediculous when you can just sell the wheel barrow and buy the go cart.

good point you will have to strip all of the car to do the swap but it might be intresting to do it good luck with that but if you ever wanna give that 420a a chance check this out a 420a head on a srt4 block this might be bit of a eye opener to the guys that have a 420a this car has 700 to 1200 hp with about 40+ pounds can we say moparbishi :57: http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f258/red-sled-update-432567/
