Ok, i guess you could consider me as a novice tuner as i have a 95 GS-T which runs high 13's nothing special i know im just trying to clear things up. My question is i just got an 04 outlander for the wife, it lacks some juice so i was planning on adding a intake and a 2 1/4 cat back exhaust, just to free up a couple of ponies. Well i was looking at the MAF and the stock air intake box, i have been hearing of people putting on open air filters on there outlander, or cone filter (k&n). But i noticed that on my 04 outlander the MAF and the stock air intake box are one piece, not bolted or clipped together at all, so how the hell are you guys putting on cone filters???? are you hacking the MAF and slipping on a cone filter like a K&n? I see that weapon-r makes the only intake for it, does the instrucitions tell you to cut the MAF????? If someone could help me that would be great. thanks

I have not looked under the hood to examine what's going on there, but I did find information regarding the replacement of the air-box for you.

http://www.mitsubishiforum.com/m_7020/mpage_2/key_/tm.htm

Page 2 of that thread has a step by step in replacing the stock box with a CAI. It appears that the MAF can be separated in some way.

In my quest for more Outlander lovers, I've found www.mitsubishiforum.com to be a better source than here, but I still like here too.
Sorry for the delayed response.
