My montero sport AWD (70k mi) is now creaking and squeaking. I hear this at slow speeds upon breaking or turning. I've never heard a noise like this on a vehicle before. It's not a brake pad type of squeak, but more like an old floorboard squeak.

Question:
Does this vehicle need chassis lubrication, or could it need ball joint lubricaton? I don't know anything about this aspect of vehicle maintenance, as I've never encountered this issue before.

Genrally there isn't anything to maintain on a regular (service basis) that I know of. It sounds like you have either a loose shock mounting or worn rubber bushings. Only way to really find the problem is to get onto a hoist and do a full inspection to see what the possibilities are. I wouldn't have expected to have this problem a vehicle of your age.
