Hey guys,

I'm new to the I"m gonna take car of my car theme. I drove a 95 pathfinder before my picking up an 08 gts. that car pretty much took car of itself.....to get back to the subject:

I"m tryin to keep my car up to date, trying to keep everything immaculate and in proper working order. I noticed that my tire pressure was low on one of the tires. I decided to check the pressure and fill up to the proper psi. The sill of my front door says for the tires to be filled at 32 psi. Checking my cold tires, it registered 47 psi on my gauge, the tire says max ..I think 50 psi. The problem is that the tired look like they need more air.

My second question is that the car has a tire pressure monitering system. How low of a pressure does it take for the car to turn the dash light on sayin there is a problem?

Thanks in advance for the help

If the tires says 50psi MAX. The rule of thumb I follow when inflating my tires is: subtract 10 psi from the MAX pressure shown on the tire.

I try to to measure the pressure when the tires are cold (in the morning before I leave, or a couple hours after I stop driving). As you drive the tires will warm up and the pressure will increase.

Don't inflate it more than 40-45 (when measured cold). I would inflate them to 35psi.

As far as the Tire Pressure Monitor. Read the owner's manual because every vehicle is different as to what will make the warning light go off. Look under "Warning Lights" or look under "Tire Pressure Monitoring System". It should tell you "when the warning lights turns on, it means that the tire pressure is lower than XX psi".

thanks for the help, the things is that if I bring the the psi to 35..it probably would be riding on the rim, owners manual didin't help at all all it says is " if the warning light comes on, immediately have the tire pressure adjusted to the specified values at the nearest service station or authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer"

I called Mitsubishi...they were absolutely no help..I'm going to purchased a new tire gauge and see if maybe my old on was broken or something

Yea, it sounds like you pressure gauge is bad, because it should be fine at 35psi, especially if it says on the door jam to inflate the tires to 32psi.

I know this is a really old topic but I am a tech at a dodge dealership and we have people daily coming in with those lights on So we put nitrogen in instead because it does not change with temperature changes. But any way what i was getting at is the tires could also be over-inflated which will cause the light to come on normally though if the tire is 3-5 lbs low it will trigger the light.
