just an update on my conversion, i went to mate up the gearbox to the engine and the flywheel/clucth sit out further than the standard and rub on the inside of the bellhousing around where the diff case pokes into it so i ground it down bit by bit till it doesnt rub and know it fits ok. if i did it agian i would think about maybe running the standard flywheel with a h/duty clucth kit. also when i went over my engine the turbo is nackered, the manifold is cracked, and the sump pushed up and the oil lines to the turbo crushed, i rang the engine supplier and im sending the turbo out for a reco and only notice the sump and few other minor things so i will be ringing again on monday, if they arnt helpfull ill let people know who they are then chris

got the galant running last night, you cant run the vr4 clutch it rubs to much on the bellhousing and cracked it allowing oil to leak out so i put some defcon on there and put a heavy duty n/a flywheel and clutch back in, im runing a tdo4 turbo as i cant get mine repaired beyond repair apparantly so i got money back, but it flys will break out in wheel spin in 4th when overtaking in the wet and 1st and 2nd when it come's on boost in the dry, so ill drive it for a while see how i go and if another tdo5 comes up cheap. but well worth the conversion now think of convertin to awd. chris

The reason why you can't run a VR4 flywheel is because it is stepped. If you can find a flywheel from an Eclipse GST, 90-92, that would be your best bet.

And converting to AWD is tough on this generation Galant, being the floorpans are completely different. And with the amount of money you put into the conversion, you can get either a Galant GSX (Non Turbo AWD) or a VR4.

Just some food for though.

hey all,

just for confirmation,

i have a 1991 mitsu galant grs 4g63, and am planning on doing a conversion to 4g63t and awd.

i have looked under the car, and it seems to have the bolt holes for the awd gear..

am i mistaken?

i am a second year mech eng student, and was a mechanic for 18 months,

and so i know the work involved in altering the chasis to road worthy standards (just dont go there)

i have asked around, and nobody seems to be able to give me any clear answers,

any info and advice is appreciated, as i am close to closing a deal on an engine and the gear,

cheers all,

The Oz floorpan may be different from the USDM model. Is yours an import?

yes,

all models of the galant / evo had to be imported into australia, up until now there are a few evo3's and then only evo 6's that were made available from the dealers. (of cause evo 8's 9's and now the 10's are available)
