Obviously Mitsubishi did a good job with the stock Infiniti sound system. I went to a local audio guy and asked him what kind of subs/amp to get to improve the sound quality. He told me that I would be doing things the "right way" by changing the system first. Now dont get me wrong i trust this guy but if the stock system is already good why not just go straight to the subs and amp? I m working the whole blue and silver into my 01 Gs and I found a slammin 3(12 inch) sub system with a silver amp with a blue neon tube around the box. I was gonna pay cash on the spot but he sorta talked me outta it any suggestions on what to do?

Well it was included in the box set with the amp and if uve ever seen the trunk on the 01 GS its huge if i wanted i could sit 10 12" subs in there...all u have to do is either slip it right in through the trunk or put the backseats down and slide it in that way.

Maybe 10 was a bit of an exaggeration but it easily fits the aforementioned box with the 3 12" subs and amp...

umm....the trunk for the RS/GS/GT/GTS is the same size. i doubt a regular square box for 3 12''s is gonna fit. i had a box for 2 12'' and the box kept hitting the back glass. i had the box slid all the way back to the hump before the backseats. youre probably have to go custom. if you dont go custom, post some pics of the setup....i would like to see it

No problem. obviously custom would take a bit longer and finding someone to do it in the area might be a pain. The box (according to the measurements) fits in the trunk with room to spare...but if i do decide to go custom Ill definetly post.

easy math... think about it... 3 12's = 36" space between the subs 1.5 X 2 = 3" ends of box .75 for wood width(each end) + another .5 (each end) = 2.5"

i'd say about 43" to make it clear right... ya have to measure between the strut towers to make it fit. even tho ya want it as close to the back of the car as possible (about 8" from the back, to get the best bump). the trunk opening is going to be almost the same width as the strut measurement, if it's smaller(box dimensions) then they won't fit (and i know they won't without a custom box)

also, (just remembered) if ya have the infinity system... if ya change the head unit (stereo) they are able to turn the amp on to power the speakers ...

if using the factory speakers you are all set

if changing the speakers and the head unit you will only gain if ya have the amp bypassed, if ya don't you are still putting the same power to the speakers that the stock head unit did, ya don't gain from it.

and it's always good to upgrade if you are looking for more volume or even clearer sound (getting to the pint where it's almost not worth it with the stock JBL and RF equipment)

if your getting a aftermarket system, go with a class d mono block amp, they are made just for bass, as for the subs, ever thought of just 2 15"s? my friend has a 1250 watt mon block class d amp, 3 12"s all plante audio, that sh*t sets off alarms while driving down the street, 2 hours afetr he got it installed he got a 100 dollar ticket for a noise violation, defintly go with a class d amp

#1 the stock sound system is crap...
#2 if you do stick with it, but add three 12's it will drown out your crappy stocker speakers and sound like crap when you turn it up; plus, you'll probably blow the crappy stock speakers quickly...unless you want a ghetto hoopty that just bumps bass and rattles your trunk and you don't want to hear any quality mids and highs...
