Hi All,
Yesterday, i put the heater of my car on, but it was not blowing hot air...instead cold air was coming from the vent. So, this morning i went to Fire Stone to get the problem resolved. Initially, they said that since the coolant was low, they have to perform the pressure test to find the leak and then later radiator flush was done and thermostat was replaced.
After all this they said to me that my heater core is blocked and that they have tried their best to unclog it, but could not do it. So, it has to be replaced. The replacement cost would be around $800.
The heater worked absolutely great throughout the winter, but i used to hear some grinding noice from the dash board after i start the car and put the heater on, but then this noise would die after a couple of minutes.
Can somebody share some experience and suggest me something.
Thanks.

The heater control valve has gone bad most likely. Did it make any sound before it wen bad mine made a stuck gear sound. It could also be that the heater core is blocked. but galant's have had problems with the heater control valve. You have to go to the dealer to get one in Ohio USA.

Hi, The grinding noise sounds like the fan starting, due to it being loose, out of line or bearings worn will cause it to oscelate (wobble) and create the noise, but when it reaches it top speed it will level out and the noise will dissapear.
You may need to check it out
Regards

The grinding noise, like something hitting the blades of a spinning fan, comes from a worn pinion on the end of the motor shaft turning against a cog within the motor control valve assembly. I know... I pulled it out!

Eventually, it will jam and you will either have no heat or possibly no cool air. It's a mechanical failure. Unless you are mechanically adept, there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Repair costs as I've been reading are enormous for what it's worth (but certainly NOT $800!). But then again, it REALLY sucks to drive in the winter without heat! In fact, with moderate to heavy snowfall, it would be impossible to drive without heat.

If you're adventurous or crazy enough, see my reply at http://www.mitsubishi-forums.com/index.php...otor+valve+dash

Ciau.
