in order to watch dvds and play video games in HD, do I have to have an HD tuner. I was always under the impression that the HD tuner was only for watching satelite, cable, or direct tv.

Most HDTV's come with an HD tuner preinstalled. This tuner is for converting the HD signal coming in from your cable box / cableCARD/ or Satellite setup. The only way to watch dvd's in HD is if you buy an HD/Bluray player (not DVD) or do what i did and buy a dvd player that upscales to 720i/1080i. As for video games you will not see any HD video games unless you own a PS3 (i think 360 is HD not sure) and even then the game actually has to be written in HD format, ps2/ps1 games played on a ps3 are not in HD even thou the system is HD. Either way you have to have that HD tuner in the tv to pass the signal along.

Well, the reason I ask is because I have a 360 and the HD/DVD player that you can buy for the 360. All 360 games are 720p/1080i/1080p. Most of PS3's stuff is only 720i/720p so far.

My question is because there is a t.v at bestbuy that does not include an hd tuner.

So in order to get my 360 to play in hd, I have to get a t.v with a tuner, or else the tv wont be able to get the signal from the 360, correct?

If the T.V. has an HD input on it, it should be able to use your HD hookup from the 360 (they just released this cable recently). The HD tuner is only required to upscale your cable/satellite/etc. card.

On a side note, bobthecow, are you as pissed off as I am that I bought the highest model 360 at the time and now there's a new model out with a bigger hard drive and HD compatibility?

yes.... very much so. I actually sent in a letter to microsoft about that. I think it is rediculous that I have to go in and trade mine in for an inferior amount of money to buy a new one for $500. I will admit that I may go buy it just because I like the black better than white. Im not too worried about the HDMI cable because I am sure they will release one for the original 360, and Im not bothered by the bigger hard drive because they have one on the market for the original 360 right now.

In other news, the PS3 1.80 firmware patch thats due out is supposed to address "upscaling of PS1/PS2/DVD to 1080p" so at least sony appears to be getting their heads out of their asses

I wish I had waited for a PS3 because I could have played all my PS1/PS2 games, but the price was outrageous.

Bad...

I'm just pissed I traded in my PS2 and all the games and got a freezing 360 that now I might have to upgrade.

The 360 made after june of 06 was fixed and did not have the freezing problem. You should get yours replaced for free.

I bought and sold my POS3, I hate that damn company. Sony screws everything up, every time.
